Guide To Project Marketing
<< Back
There are a few things that are critical to the success of any marketing campaign.
The points below need to be addressed before you waste your time and money on an under achieving marketing campaign.
Is your product / business model ready for high volume business?
Is your branding and marketing material good enough?
Who would be interested in your product?
What's the most effective way to reach your target audience?
Keep statistics for future campaigns.
All of these are crucial points that need to be addressed thoroughly. If you do not, the success of your campaign will be greatly reduced.
Is your product / business model ready for high volume business?
You need to realise how many units your business is able to sell in a certain timeframe and work your campaign around this. It would be a tragedy if business was coming in quicker that you could handle. This would make you look unprofessional and will push the business elsewhere. If possible, have a contingency plan where help can be called upon quickly to satisfy incoming orders and realise how much business you can realistically do.
Is your branding and marketing material good enough?
Today, branding is a very important business asset.
Scenario: 2 businesses, both offering the same quality of service, business 1 has strong branding while business 2 has weak branding. Business 1 will always get the majority of new business.
We've all done it, you go to a website but it looks like an amateur has built it.
How quickly do you move to next site and do you spend money with them?
Look at your competition and evaluate whether your branding is as good as it could be.
Who would be interested in your product?
You need to target your marketing at the right people. There really is no point in sending a flyer for skydiving to an old people's home, it's a waste of time and money.
Think long and hard about who would be interested in your product and think about the most effective way to get it to them. When you have decided these factors, you can form a good strong marketing strategy that will have a much better chance of success.
What's the most effective way to reach your target audience?
It's not rocket science, but it does take time to learn the best ways to market a business.
If your business is an Internet based service like web hosting, internet marketing is the obvious option.
People do not look in the Yellow Pages to find a web host.
On the other side of the coin, if your business is selling double-glazing, a lot of people will use the Yellow Pages and local publications. Some will look online, so online marketing can still play a part in a double-glazing business.
Work out what is right for your project and give it a try. If funds are an issue, dip your toe in the water with a scaled down campaign, measure the success and do the sums. If it works on a small scale, it should work on a larger scale.
Keep statistics for future campaigns.
The more information you can gather during your campaign the better. Always ask clients where they heard about you and keep these statistics. This information can be used to fine-tune future marketing campaigns.
Examine the cost of the campaign against the revenue generated and see how successful it was and remember, you need to spend money to make money.
If your campaign costs £10,000 and it generates £11,000, it has been a success. Scaled up 10 times, profit would be £10,000.
If you lost money from a campaign, realise why and learn from it. The value lies in the lesson so learn from it and try again.
